Nellie B. Thomas of East Chicago, Indiana passed away Sunday December 2, 2012 at home. A lifelong resident of East Chicago, Nellie was born in Eufaula, Alabama in 1926, the oldest of 11. Nellie was a foot soldier for the Lord-having served as a Sunday School teacher, in the Mission Ministry and Food Bank with Antioch Baptist Church for over 50 years. She loved God and valued education. She retired from First National Bank and worked as a Senior Companion for Catholic Charities Program until 2007. She is preceded in death by her parents: Marshall and Arrie Wellon; five siblings; and son-in-law, Tommie Lewis, Jr. She is survived by her children: Charles Andrews, Jr. of Dayton, OH; Kimberly Scott (Roderick) of Florissant, Mo. and Hope A. Lewis of East Chicago, IN; four grandchildren: Lovita Andrews and Kevin Simpson, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN, Ashley Gilmore (Jeremy) of Durham, NC, Ericka Scott of Florissant, MO; and eight great grandchildren; three sisters: Cora Sugars, Sallie Dawkins and Inell Upshaw all of Orlando, FL; and two brothers: Richard Wellon of Columbus, GA and Otis Wellon of Sanford, FL; very special God-daughters: Sandra Hughley of Merrillville, IN, and Vera Gaines of Gary, IN; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends. Visitation Friday, December 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Funeral Services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church 3902-06 Alexander Avenue, East Chicago, IN with Rev. Justin C.
