Robert A. Davies, 89, of Evansville passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at his home. He was born October 30, 1923 in Mt. Clement, MI to George and Winifred (Whitehead) Davies. Bob graduated from Bosse High School in 1941 as class president and attended Evansville College before enlisting in the Army Air Corps where he graduated first in his airflight class of 100. Bob was a bomber pilot and flight instructor stationed in Italy, retiring from service as a lieutenant colonel. Upon returning to Evansville, he worked for a short time in banking before joining his father at George Davies and Son, Inc. With his father, they built many commercial buildings and residences on the east side of Evansville. Upon his retirement, Bob started a small but profitable flag business. He was a former City Councilman under the first Lloyd Administration and former county commissioner. Bob was on the Local Government Tax Control Board. He was a very strong republican and ran several Mayoral Campaigns. He was a long time member of Rotary, served on the Angel Mounds Board and presently on the board of Willard Library. Bob was a member of the Kennel Club, Evansville Country Club, Eastside Kiwanis, and President of the Indiana Home Builder's Assoc. He received the Sagamore of the Wabash Award and a Distinguished Hoosier. Bob was preceded in death by his previous wife, Sara Beth Davies; and parents. He is survived by his wife of seven years, Billie A. Sanders Davies; children: David Davies (Jan) of Evansville, IN, Ann E. Davies of Valparaiso, IN, Jane E. Davies of Evansville, IN, and Kristen Haynie of Evansville, IN; step children: Beth Huff Franklin (Bill) of Evansville, IN, Paul Organ (Mary) of Kent, OH, Lynn Miller-Pease of Evansville, IN, Christian M. Lenn (Pam) of Henderson, KY, Mark A. Lenn (Peggy) of Newburgh, IN, and Julie L. Holtz (Joe) of Evansville, IN; grandchildren: Lea Zabrowski, Kurt Davies, Ellie Cook, A. J. Cook, Jacquelyn Dassel, Madeline Scott, Katie Miller, Jack Organ, Jack Miller, Charlie Haynie, Max Haynie, Caroline Haynie, Lily Pease, Brennon Franklin, Drew Holtz, Sarah Pickenpaugh, Samuel Lenn, Addison Lenn, and Aderianne Hubbs; and 15 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2013 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, IN 47714 and will continue from 9:30-10:00 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 609 SE Second St, Evansville, IN 47713. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the church with Rev. Kevin Fleming officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
