WALTER RICHARD BAUER RICHMOND, IN
Walter Richard Bauer, 86 of Richmond, IN, passed away November 24, 2012 at Reid Hospital and Health Care Services. Walter was born December 22, 1925 in White Plains, NY, the son of Walter E. and Clara (Brauer) Bauer. Walter served both in WWII and the Korean War. After graduating summa cum laude from Concordia Seminary in 1953, he joined the Air Force and served a long and distinguished career as a chaplain. After his retirement in 1982 at the rank of Colonel, he served as the minister at University Lutheran Church in Champaign, IL until 1994. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Richmond, Prop Busters Model Airplane Club and was an avid gardener and golfer. On June 9, 1951 in Valparaiso, IN Walter married Herta Louise Bosse, who survives in Richmond. Also surviving are his sons: Walter George Bauer of Neenah, WI and Frederick John Bauer of Queensland, Australia; his daughter, Elizabeth Claire Cyze of Oak Lawn, IL; six grandchildren; and three sisters: Johanna McGill of Valparaiso, IN, Sharon Hanrahan of Woodstock, IL, and Susan Bamesberger of Valparaiso, IN. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 30, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rev. Donald Williams officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, IN. Visitation will be held Friday, November 30, 2012 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1700 N. Monticello Park Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46383. Bartholomew Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Walter will also be remembered at the 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM services on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Richmond.
