WALTER W. AHLBORN, JR. PORTAGE, IN
Walter W. Ahlborn, Jr., age 78, Portage, passed away Monday, June 18, 2012. Walter was born in Hammond, IN on June 11, 1934 to Walter and Helen Ahlborn. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retiree of U.S. Steel Gary Works. Walter always stayed active and enjoyed gardening and collecting treasures on his bike rides. He also enjoyed filling his time with photography and videography as well as completing paint by number, model plane and cross stitch projects. Walter loved his family and taking his grandkids places. He will be missed dearly. Walter is survived by his wife, Diane; four children: Scott Ahlborn of Merrillville, Tracy (Julie) Ahlborn of LaPorte, Jodi Garcia of Hobart, and Karen (Richard) Ventrello of Merrillville; 10 grandchildren: Mikey, Hali, Ashley, Kelsey, Briana, Christian, Ella, Faith, Jacob, and Miles; two sisters: Helen Raksanyi and Shirley (Egon) Riehl; and other loving family and dear friends. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Emil Barney; sister-in-law, Margaret Barney; and brother- in-law, Charles Raksanyi. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in memory of Walter to the or The Arbor Day Foundation. A funeral service for Walter will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, with Pastor Ron Smith officiating.
