HOLGER APPELHAGEN "APPEL" PORTAGE, IN Holger "Appel" Appelhagen, age 66, of Portage, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012. He is survived by two daughters: Lisa (Steve) Elliott of Indianapolis and Julie Appelhagen of Washington D.C.; grandchildren: Ryan and Christopher Elliott; and his beloved cats: Charlie and Paws. Appel was born in Stettin, Germany to the late Friedrich and Charlotte Appelhagen. He served his country in the Air Force from 1964 to 1968 during the Vietnam War. Appel was an accountant with Inland Steel with 14 years of service. Family and friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service, 2700 Willowcreek Road, Portage on Friday, February 24, 2012 for a memorial visitation from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A memorial service will start at 3:00 p.m. with Deacon Richard Huber officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hobart Animal Clinic (2650 E. State Rd. 130, Hobart, IN 46342) to start a fund to assist the elderly in caring for their cats.
