DENNIS D. PHILLIPS MERRILLVILLE, IN Dennis D. Phillips, age 68, of Merrillville, IN passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014. Denny is survived by his wife of 48 years, the love of his life, Cindy; two daughters: Trisha (Dale) Plank of Wisconsin and Nikki (Rick) Brayfield of Merrillville; seven loving grandchildren: Bradley, Ellyn, Mitchell, Melissa, Jenna, Benjamin and Emma; brother, Robert (Jenna) Martin of Chesterton; two sisters: Mary (Jerry) Kwolek of Valparaiso and Bonnie (John) Abegg of Hobart; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Zonia B. Martin; and brother, Richard Martin. Denny retired as a Service Writer at Shaffer Hyundai and then returned to Shaffer as a Parts Delivery Driver. He also worked at U-Haul in Merrillville. Denny was a graduate of Merrillville High School, Class of 1964. He was involved with the Merrillville Girls Softball League as a board member, coach, umpire and manager; and was a huge Merrillville Pirates fan, attending football and basketball games. Denny started bowling at Merri-Bowl, where he was secretary of the League until it closed; moving to Stardust Tuesday Nite Keglers League, serving as secretary for the past 25 years. Bowling was his passion. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Geisen Funeral and Cremation Services, 7905 Broadway, Merrillville, IN 46410 from 2:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Geisen Funeral and Cremation Services in Merrillville, IN at 10:00 AM with Bill Marshall officiating. Services will conclude at the funeral home with cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Denny’s name to the Merrillville Education Foundation.
