JOSEPH J. GIELNIAK CROWN POINT, IN
Joseph J. Gielniak, age 94, of Crown Point, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Chicagoland Christian Village in Crown Point. Joseph is survived by two sons: John J. (Diane) Gielniak of Crown Point, IN and James (Yvonne) Gielniak of San Mateo, CA; grandchildren: Peter Gielniak of San Mateo, CA, Dr. Nikki (Craig Klauer) Wargo of Crown Point, IN and Jason (Dr. Natalie) Wargo of Hebron, IN; three great grandchildren: Jackson Gielniak, and Mya and Ian Wargo; sister-in-law, Patricia Lemster of Merrillville, IN; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Donna. Joseph was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Winfield. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Radarman on a Destroyer Escort in the Pacific during WWII and was a member of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association. Joe retired from US Steel with 44 1/2 years of service. He was an avid Cubs and Bulls fan and enjoyed bird watching and gardening. While raising his family, Joe was actively involved with the Junedale Little League as both a Coach and an Announcer. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, February 7, 2014 at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave./South St., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the Geisen Funeral- Cremation & Reception Centre in Crown Point, IN at 10:00 AM with Pastor Robert Shaw officiating.
