DeForest Raymond Wilkes, Sr., age 82, of Crown Point passed away Monday, February 10, 2014. He was born on April 22, 1931 to the late John and Myrtle Wilkes. DeForest graduated from Hobart High School in 1949. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. DeForest retired from NIPSCO in 1990 after almost 40 years of service. He was a life member of the Valparaiso VFW Post 988 and a member of the Wanatah American Legion Post 403. DeForest is survived by two sons: John Wilkes of Wanatah, IN and Donald (Kim) Wilkes of FL; six grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Wilkes; one son, DeForest Willkes, Jr.; and one sister, Lois Westbay.
