STEVEN F. JAKOV WHITING, IN
Steven F. Jakov, 78 of Whiting, passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 at the St. Anthony Medical Center, Crown Point. He was the beloved son of the late Matthew and Josephine (Rozic) Jakov; cherished brother of the late Matthew, Joseph, John, William and Rose Jakov; dearest brother-in-law of Angeline Jakov and Dolores Jakov; dear uncle of many nieces and nephews; adoring canine companion, “Buster”. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 6, 2014; 9:30 a.m. at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with the Rev. John E. Kalicky, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m.; parish wake service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. Steve Jakov was born on April 4, 1935 in Whiting, IN and was a lifelong resident. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and a graduate of Catholic Central (Bishop Noll) High School, Class of 1953. Steve was a United States Army Veteran. He was a master mechanic and was the former owner and operator of Steve’s Pure Oil Service Stations in Highland and Gary. He was a retiree of the Montgomery Ward Auto Center in Munster. Steve loved dogs, especially Boston Terriers. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. John School Endowment Fund, the Whiting Food Pantry or the Whiting “Gimme Shelter” would be appreciated. www.baranfh.com (219) 659-4400
