Carlos A. Mangual, age 64 of Hobart, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at his residence with his loving family at his side. He is survived by his daughters: Amanda (Anthony Williams) Mangual with whom he lived with and was his caretaker, and Lena Mangual of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren: Anthony Jr., Nevaeh, Jaelen, and Maria Williams; sisters: Elena (Ivan) Molina, Delores (late Gene) Strauch, Olga (Irving) Cruz, Gladys (Tom) Brown, Margaret (Byron) Perry, and Carmelita (Brian) Mangual; brothers: Angel (Yang Sun) Mangual, and Robert Mangual; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, Maria Mangual; parents: Jose and Angela Mangual; and brother, Joe Mangual.. Carlos served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, receiving a Purple Heart and also was a Bronze Star recipient. He retired from U.S. Steel Gary Works and was a member of C.I.O. Local 1014. Carlos was a graduate of Horace Mann High School Class of 1969. He was an avid pool player and beer drinker. Friends may visit from 2:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Rendina Funeral Home, 5100 Cleveland Street, Merrillville. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 17, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Frank Torres officiating. Burial at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville.
