VIOLA M. JONKMAN "SARGE" LANSING, IL Viola M. Jonkman (nee DeBoer), age 86, of Lansing, IL, passed away March 19, 2014. She is survived by her children: George (Ruth) Jonkman Jr., David Jonkman, Linda (Kim) Bishop, Alice (Carl) Stomp, and Trudy (Dave) Graves; grandchildren: Karen (Gary) Hahn, Cheryl Stomp, Melvin Perzee Jr., Gib (Jodi) Jonkman, Scott (Katina) Jonkman, Sarah (James) Gillard, Justin (Rebecca) Jonkman, Amanda Munnich, Martin (Jieun) Munnich, and Michael Bishop; 15 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one brother, Simon (Late Alice) DeBoer; in-laws: Ed (Late Joanne) Eriks and Ruth (Late Robert) DeBoer; along with very special friend, Cheryl Laski; and "adopted granddaughters": Kayla and Jenna Laski. Viola was preceded in death by her husband, George Jonkman Sr. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM at New Hope Church, 3642 Lake Street, Lansing, IL. Burial will be private at Homewood Memorial Gardens in Homewood, IL. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Sunday from 2:00-8:00 PM at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Elim Christian Services or to Hospice of the Calumet Area. Mrs. Jonkman was retired from Sunnybrook School District #171 after 39 years of service as a playground and lunchroom supervisor, where she was affectionately known as "Sarge". She was a loyal Chicago Bulls fan, and a longtime member of New Hope Church (formerly First CRC of Lansing).
