Constance Joy Matras, (nee Burtscher) age 70, of Highland, born in Madison, WI passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014. She is survived by her daughters: Tina (Dennis) Bork, and Debbie (Ramen) Deardorff; son, Brian (Stacy) Onofrio; stepdaughters: Laura Sosnowski, Donna Whitten, Sue Chandler, and Gerri Lanter; 15 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren with one on the way. Preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, John Matras; and her parents: Joseph and Julibelle Burtscher. Connie was a nurse assistant in the Intermediate Care Unit at Community Hospital for over 15 years. She also volunteered at the William J. Riley Memorial residence in Munster. She really enjoyed taking care of people. Connie also went to clown college in 1989 and became a professional clown. Her clown name was "Shy Gumshoe". She was well loved throughout her clown community. She was also a member of the Golden Timers of Northwest Indiana. She loved to play Bunco, scrapbook with her girls, and spend lots of time with her family. Visitation will be Friday, May 2, 2014 from 2:00-8:00 PM at Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN. A funeral service will take place at 8:00 PM with Fr. Terry Steffens officiating. A private funeral after cremation for family members only will take place later. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of the Calumet Area or Calumet Clowns, Inc. Hammond, IN in her memory would be greatly appreciated.
