JOSEPH JOHN KUCHARSKI "PAPA JOE" CRETE, IL Joseph John Kucharski "Papa Joe", age 90, of Crete, IL, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at St. James Hospice House in Chicago Heights, IL. Joseph is survived by his two sons: Jim (Debbie) and Jerry (Anne); extended family, Bob (Lark) Wartenberg; grandchildren: Michael (Kim), Gregory & Jerome Jr (Katie) Kucharski, and Katherine West, Robbie (Erin), Ricky (Michelle), Randy & Rusty Wartenberg; great-grandchildren: Vanessa & Christian West, Jaxon Kucharski, Payton, Josie & Preston Wartenberg; brother, Walter (Eunice); several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 26 years, Helen (nee Burda) in 1976; second wife of 26 years, Joy in 2004; parents: John and Catherine; brother, Chester; sisters: Stella, Irene and Helen. Joseph retired as an electrician from Atlantic Richfield Co. in East Chicago, IN with over 34 years of service. He proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy and was a member of American Legion Post 330. Joseph was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed woodworking, gardening and cooking. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A memorial visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave./South St., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 AM with Terry Machowicz officiating. Services will conclude at the funeral home, with inurnment to take at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to: VITAS Hospice Care.
