CARMEN GILL ESCOBEDO GARY/EAST CHICAGO Carmen Gill Escobedo 12/6/1930-7/3/2014 Carmen G. Escobedo age 83, surrounded by her adoring family passed away peacefully on Thursday July 3rd after battling cancer. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Manuel Z. Escobedo, daughters Cindy and Roni grandson Ramie Chavez, Angel & Ruperta Gill siblings, Hope, Evelyn, and Arlene, Victoria Angel and Robert Gill. Carmen leaves behind one loving sister, Ophelia, six daughters Lydia, Alice (Raymond) Rachel, Martha, Lisa (Martin), Cali and three sons, Manuel (Annie) Richard and Michael G. (Rosie), also survived by 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-granddaughters. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews. A Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday July 8th, 2014; 10 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church Rev. Frank Torres officiating, burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday July 7th, 2014 from 2 to 8 pm ( with a 7 pm Rosary) at Kuiper Funeral Home 9039 Kleinman Rd ( two blocks south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN. Carmen was born and raised in the Harbor section of East Chicago, IN. She raised her family in the Brunswick neighborhood of Gary; Carmen's main purpose in life was to be a wife and mother. During tax season, she would work as a tax preparer for H&R Block and also served several terms as vice prescient committee woman, Carmen was a member of Holy Rosary Church, a member of the bingo and summer fest committees. Our Mother was our light, our strength, our everything she will be remembered for her funny personality, and she enjoyed gardening, bingo, reading, gambling, being surrounded by her family on special occasions. Carmen was a loving wife, mother grandmother and Big Grandma and will be dearly missed by loving family and many friends.
