Raymond Dwain Hansen, 81, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 11, 2014. He married the late Janice Joanne Tebben on August 31, 1958; they were married for 55 years. Raymond was a loving father to Myron (Marcia) Hansen of San Antonio, TX, and Brenda (John) Pollalis of Schererville, IN; adoring grandpa to Sophia, William, and Raymond Pollalis; cherished brother to Marvin (Laura) Hansen of Hobbs, NM, Verla (Duane, dec.) Haack of Sioux City, Iowa. He had numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Harold (Mona, dec.) Hansen and sister Evelyn (Larry, dec.) Baack. Raymond was born to Sophus and Alvena (Peters) Hansen in their farm home near Hubbard, NE. He graduated from Hubbard High School in 1951. He served in the United States Air Force from 1953-1957 during the Korean War. Raymond received his Bachelor's degree from Wayne State Teachers College (NE) and earned his Master's degree from the University of South Dakota. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, an education fraternity. He was a counselor and teacher for Woodrow Wilson Middle School (IA), Central High School (IA), Highland High School (IN), Hammond Tech (IN), Thornton Fractional North High School (IL), and Emerson School for Performing Arts (IN). Raymond was a long time member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Highland, IN. He was a Youth Advocate for many programs throughout the Calumet area. His goal was to teach youth to grow in character and confidence. He loved traveling, dancing, chocolate ice cream, and especially hugs. Ray will be missed for the many lives he touched. In his later years, a simple smile was enough to know he loved you. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to The Parkinson's Disease Foundation. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 3-7pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 8178 Cline ve. Schererville, IN. Funeral service will be held Monday, July 14, 11:00 am at Gloria Dei (Glory to God) Lutheran Church, 3711 Ridge Road, Highland, IN.
