JAMES J. YAGER VALPARAISO / FORMERLY PORTER/WHITING, IN James J. Yager, age 75 of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease, with his loving family at his side. He was born June 6, 1939 the son of Pete and Mary (Matis) Yager. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Susan (Williams); children: Michael (Robin)Yager of Portage, Michelle (fiancé Mike Ham) Nizam of Valparaiso and Jill Yager of Valparaiso; Grandchildren Andrew, Maliah, Ella and Jake. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Irene (late Larry) Carty; brother-in-law Gary (Judy) Williams; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Lillian (late Jerry) Patrick. Jim was born and raised in Whiting, graduating from Whiting High School, class of 1957, residing the last 18 years in Porter County. He worked at Unilever for 38 years as a machinist before retiring in 1995. He and Susan enjoyed traveling together including spending several winters in Florida and Arizona. He enjoyed boating, biking and golfing with his family and friend. Jim will be remembered for his strong work ethic, devotion to his wife and children and an immeasurable strength to life's challenges. A memorial Mass to celebrate Jim's life will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Student Center, 1511 LaPorte Avenue, Valparaiso on Monday July 28, 2014 at 6:00 PM.
