ELDO G. MILLER "GENE" HAMMOND, IN Eldo G. Miller "Gene"age 75, of Hammond, passed away Friday, August 1, 2014. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda; children: Cheryl (Dan) Erickson, Ronald (Cindy) Miller and Kim (Mike) Plylar; grandchildren: Cassie (Charles) Ruttledge, Becca Plylar and Amanda Erickson; great grandchildren: Alyssa and Kaden Ruttledge; sister, Lavada (Bobby) Garner; many nieces, nephews and cousins; canine companion, Bart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burley and Jewell; sister, Retha Garner; brother, Wayne; and grandson, Matthew Erickson. Gene worked at Republic Steel for 36 1/2 years. He proudly served as Scout Master for Pack 224 for many years. Gene was an avid White Sox and NASCAR fan, enjoying both even in his last week. Gene had a tender spot for all animals, whether it was his horse, Buck, his dogs & cats, or the squirrels and birds in his yard. Family meant the world to Gene, and he lit up the most when surrounded by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, Linda believes that Gene would want memorial donations to be made to the Matthew Lee Erickson Scholarship Fund, 2504 Pebble Beach Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46383. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 6th, 10:00 AM, at the funeral home with a procession to Gene's final resting place, Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond.
