Francis Wendell “Papa” Thatcher, 82 of Hebron, passed away, Tuesday, August 12, 2014. He was born September 4, 1931 in Gary, the son of Robert and Frances (Crisman) Thatcher. Wendell was a US Navy Veteran and retired as a machinist for 50 years from McGill in Valparaiso. He was a member of Porter Lodge #137 of the Masons, 32o of the South Bend Valley, a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, and was active in Porter County 4-H. He was also a member of the Hebron Methodist Church. On November 19, 1952 he married Carolyn Joan Purkey who survives in Hebron. Also surviving is his daughter, Christine (Jerry) Dye of Hebron; sons: Jerry (Karen) Thatcher of Valparaiso and Jeffrey (Linda) Thatcher of Hanna; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two sisters: Mary Alice Klein of Valparaiso and Ruth Olsen of Dyer. His parents and a sister Dolores preceded him in death Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe St. Pastor Mike Eddy officiating.
