   George Peter Wimmer, Jr., age 86, of Hammond, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 10, 2014. He is survived by seven children: Bill (Kathy)Wimmer, Tom (Vera) Wimmer, Richard (Flossie) Wimmer, Mary (Pat) Mulhern, Mike (Beth) Wimmer, Matt Wimmer and Patricia Wimmer; 17 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; two brothers: Larry Wimmer and David Wimmer; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Elizabeth “Bettye” Wimmer; Parents, George P. and Lillie Wimmer and  four sisters: Edna, Jimmy, Mary Lou and Deloris Wimmer and one brother, Chuck Wimmer. George was a lifetime resident of the Hammond area. He was a 1947 graduate of Bishop Noll, formerly Catholic Central High School.   He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. during WWII and was a member of the American Legion Hessville Service Post #232. George was a longtime faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. He was very active in the community and was instrumental in the founding of the Hessville Little League. George was an avid golfer and a true Chicago White Sox fan. He was owner and operator of the Hessville Tap for over 28 years. He was a lover of animals and a member of ASCAP. George was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many who will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Humane Society Calumet Area, 421-45th Ave, Munster, IN 46321 would be appreciated. Services were private and burial was at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond.
