Jeanne M. Efantis (nee Manesales), age 86, of Hobart, IN, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at St. James Manor in Crete, IL. Jeanne is survived by her children: John (Nancy) Efantis, Jim (Carol) Efantis and Dean (Emma) Efantis; daughter-in-law: Annabelle Efantis; grandchildren: Gust (Melissa) Efantis, Stephanie (Ron) Spranger, Jim (Rachael) Efantis, Dean R. (Juleen) Efantis, Tiffany Efantis, JT Efantis, Joe Efantis, and Jessica (Trey) Moore; 10 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters: Helen (Bill) Shropulos and Penny Arges. She was preceded in death by her husband: Gust Efantis; and son: Adonis Efantis. Jeanne was a member of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Hegewisch and former member of Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral and choir. She was a member and past trustee of the VFW; a volunteer for St. Mary Medical Center for 7 years; past president and past treasurer of Linden House; a volunteer for Juvenile Sugar Diabetes; a member and past Star Point (Esther) for Eastern Star; member of Speakers' Bureau; past president of Toastmasters; recipient of the Community Service Award from Professional Secretaries International and first recipient of the Community Service Award while employed at Atlantic Richfield. Jeanne was also a 55 year member of the American Legion with outstanding service in the Poppy Program and also served on a District level. She was a former member of the Former Maids of Athens and Daughters of Penelope serving in many capacities and also served on the District level. She even received the Penelope of the Year Award. She was a professional blood donor for The American Red Cross. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, September 1, 2014 at Geisen Funeral and Cremation Services, 7905 Broadway, Merrillville, IN 46410 from 1:00 to 6:00 PM with additional visitation on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 13631 S. Brainard Ave., Chicago, IL from 9:30 AM until time of Funeral Service at 10:30 AM with Fr. James Doyle officiating. Interment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond, IN.
