JOSEPH C. ZELLER, SR. HEBRON, IN Joseph C. Zeller, Sr., age 94 of Hebron, formerly of Schererville, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at St. Anthony Hospice in Crown Point. Joseph was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Josephine in 2007. He is survived by his son, Joseph C. (Billie) Zeller Jr. of Hebron; daughter, Donna Jo (Horace) Privette of Canton, GA; six grandchildren: George (Kimberly) Elischer III of Kissimmee, FL, Joseph C. Zeller V of Hebron, Jacqueline (Daniel) Craig of Jasper, GA, Jodi Zeller of Hebron, Jonathon (Martha) Elischer of Jasper, GA, and Joy (Chuck) Swancy of Jasper, GA; six great grandchildren: Zachery Porter of Hebron, LeeRoy Chumley of Talking Rock, GA, Jordan Richards of Talking Rock, GA, Angel Chumley of Talking Rock, GA, Billie Jo Bellew of Florida, and Dillon Champion of Talking Rock, GA; two great-great grandchildren: Chloe Sue and Joshua Lee. Joseph was born in Gary, IN on June 14, 1916 to Joseph C. and Helen Zeller. He was a graduate of Horace Mann High School Class of 1935. Joseph was employed for 10 years by U.S. Steel Open Hearth Division and went on to work for the Gary Police Department from 1948 to 1968 as a Patrol Officer, Motorcycle Officer, Detective, and Sgt. of Safety Education. He also worked as an Officer at the Gary Schools and retired as Sgt. in the Traffic Division. Joe was one of the first officers working RADAR in the USA and also worked security at Gary National Bank for two years as well as working for 10 years at Wyman Gordon Company in Harvey, IL. Joe lived in Gary for 62 years until 1978 before moving to Schererville. He was a former member for many years at St. Mark's Church in Glen Park-Gary, most recently a member of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, and a member of the FOP Ben K. Perry Lodge #61 in Gary. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 28, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre (NOTE: NEW LOCATION- two blocks east of Broadway) at 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN with Fr. Joseph Vamos officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, June 27, 2010 from 12:00 noon to 6:00 PM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre.
