JANICE DEMERCEDE PORTAGE, IN Janice DeMercede, 64 of Portage, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at the University Of Chicago Hospital. She was born July 9, 1946 in Chicago, the daughter of Clarence and Helen (Szotek) Marcoullier. Janice received her Bachelor's degree from Purdue University and then earned her CPA. Surviving is her husband Joseph DeMercede of Portage; her three sons: George (Michelle), Nick (Jennifer) and Chris (Christine) Rentas and their children: Georgie, Alyssa, Jamie, Hailey and Madelyn; and Joseph's children: Joe (Franny), Anthony and Michael (Chris) DeMercede; his daughter, Mary Ellen Harrison and their children: Joe, Leo, Michael, Collin, Breezy, Brooklyn and Adam. Also surviving are her sisters, Clarice Sinars and Carrie Griffith; two brothers, Jerry and Jim Marcoullier; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Marianne Mackowiak. A funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 4, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1855 W. Harrison St, Valparaiso, Rev. Joseph Pawlowski officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City. Visitation will be held Friday, 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe St, Valparaiso (219-462-4120) with procession to the church at 10:30 AM.
