Robert M. Loncar, age 84, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2012. Beloved husband of Sherry L. (nee Kremer) Loncar. Loving father of the late Mark Harold who predeceased him in 1973. Robert was the longtime owner of Loncar Liquors in South Chicago. Cherished son of the late Marko Loncar and late Catherine Loncar Musa, immigrants from Croatia. Dear brother of Marie (late Edward) Maras, the late John Loncar and the late Marko Loncar. Loving uncle of Stephen (Mitzi) Maras, Marcia Maras, Edward (Teresa) Maras and Catherine (James) Maras O'Leary. Cherished great-uncle of Stephanie, Samantha, Zachary and Julia Maras as well as Alexandra and Edward O'Leary. Robert joined the Navy at the age of 16 and served with the Naval Occupation Forces patrolling Nagasaki and Tokyo Bay immediately following the bombing. In 1928, his parents opened the family tavern at 3201 E. 92nd Street - affectionately known to all as "Loncar's" - and operated it until Robert took over sometime in the 1950's. He retired in 2004. He sponsored hundreds of sports, scouting and school activities in the South Chicago area. Visitation Friday 2:00-9:00 p.m. at the Elmwood Chapel, 11200 S. Ewing Ave., Chicago with prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services Saturday, July 7, 2012 with closing prayers at 10:15 a.m. from the Elmwood Chapel to Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL for a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Our Lady of Guadalupe School, 3200 East 91st Street, Chicago, IL 60617 and Sacred Heart Croatian Church, 2864 East 96th Street, Chicago, IL. 60617 will be appreciated.
