Walter R. Dee, 89 of Munster, IN, passed away Friday, October 19, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy J. Dee (nee Jaracz); one son, Robert S. (Marsha) Dee of Vancouver, WA; one daughter, Lorraine Dee of Portland, OR; and one grandson, Matthew Dee. He was preceded in death by his parents: Josef and Bernice Dudzinski; brother, John; and sister, Harriet. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, 10:00 a.m. at the Anthony & Dziadowicz Funeral Home, 9445 Calumet Ave. (at 45th St.), Munster, IN with Rev. Mark Pavlina officiating. Burial at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
. Walter was born on November 20, 1922 in East Chicago, IN. He attended Washington High School in East Chicago. He graduated as an engineer from Purdue University and also received a finance degree from Northwestern University. He proudly served his country in the Military Intelligence Service with the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. Prior to college, he worked at the Indiana Theater and Riley Organization in East Chicago. He worked as an engineer for Combustion Engineering and as Production Manager for Amgears in Chicago. He became a Management Consultant for Peat Morwick Public Accounting firm in Chicago and Los Angeles. In 1960, he became Financial Vice President of White Stag Manufacturing Company in Portland, OR. He also served as President of White Stag of Canada in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and as President of Liz Carlson Junior Sportswear in San Francisco. He was President of the Financial Executives Institute in Portland and the National Association of Accountants in Portland. Locally he belonged to the Highland Elks Lodge and the St. Thomas More Knights of Columbus. Upon retirement, he became very active as a volunteer with the AARP/IRS Tax Aide Program and prepared hundreds of tax returns, free of charge for senior citizens. He was a Board Member and Consultant for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Portland and was named Volunteer of the Year in 1992. Walter was a lifelong golfer, avid bridge player and enjoyed spending time with friends and his family.
