WILLIAM K. GILLIANA VALPARAISO, IN William K. Gilliana, 89 of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, November 16, 2012. He was born June 14, 1923 in Knox, IN to Benjamin and Rose Gilliana. He served with the U.S. Army, during WW II in Europe, where he was named Military Governor of Bologna, Italy during the occupation. Bill went on to become a Vice-President with the Hunter Corporation, where he oversaw the construction of several power plants including nuclear power. He was also proud to have been the first member of the Porter County Sheriff's Department Merit Board that was selected by the officers. On September 26, 1953, in Gary, he married Grady Nell Burns, who preceded him in death in 2000. Survivors include their daughters: Terry Gilliana of Valparaiso and Tracy (Eric) Gurdian of Oak Park, IL; granddaughters: Ashley and Audrey Gurdian; and his honorary grandson, Jake Mateer. He was also preceded in death by his siblings: Nancy, George, Katherine, Marshall and Virginia. A funeral service will be held Monday, 2:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso with burial to follow at Angelcrest Cemetery.
