LEONARD J. "LEN" PERA VALPARAISO, IN Leonard J. "Len" Pera, 84, of Valparaiso, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the VNA Horton Hospice Center. He was born December 16, 1927 in Buffalo, NY to Gasper and Angeline (Tabbi) Pera. Len served in the U.S. Air Force, earned his Bachelor's degree in business from Purdue University, and retired from Bethlehem Steel as a supervisor in the fuel and utilities department. He was a member of the Valparaiso Lion's Club and the Low Vision Support Group. He played in the kitchen band at the Banta Center, volunteered at Whispering Pines, and was a long-time volunteer at SELF where he was known as "Mr. Len." On November 26, 1953 he married Lena Frances LoVullo, who survives, along with four children: Len (Cathy) Pera of Valparaiso, Paul Pera of Valparaiso, Jeff (Mike Bonner) Pera of Portland, OR, Leanne (Tony) DeFelice of Howe, IN and two grandchildren: Joel (Melissa) Pera and Dalton DeFelice; one great-grandchild expected in February; two brothers: Paul (Lee) Pera and Joe (Josephine) Pera both of Buffalo, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Madeline Heske. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 5 at 6:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso, with visitation from 3:00 PM until the time of the service. Cremation will take place at Angelcrest Crematory with burial of ashes at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Valparaiso Lion's Club or Whispering Pines.
