REX E. SIMS GRIFFITH, IN
Rex E. Sims age 82, of Griffith passed away Monday January 21, 2013. He is survived by the love of his life of 59 years, Betty Lou (Stephen); four children: Eugene (Patricia) Sims of Hebron, David (Susan) Sims of Griffith, Daniel Sims of Valparaiso, and Cheryl Lynn (Steven) Salatas of Schererville; ten grandchildren: Charlene (Ron) Horton, Pamela (Ramon) Rocha, Laura (fiance Craig Gard) Sims, Melissa (Jeremy) Skinner, Jennifer (Brian) Childers, Joshua D. Sims, Craig (Debbie) Sims, Eric (Ashley) Sims, Julie D. Sims, and Leanne (fiance Brandon E. Klein) Salatas; four great grandchildren: Cassidy and Lewis Skinner, Addison Sims, and Patty Sue Horton; and several nieces and nephews. Rex was preceded in death by his parents: Noel and Maria Sims of Odon, IN; brother, Norman Sims; and sister, Lucille Sims. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Sims; sister, Mary Vickers; and brother, Leroy Sims. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. at Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 8580 Wicker Ave., (Rt. 41) St. John, IN with a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church, Griffith, IN with Father David Yankauskas, OMV, officiating. Burial at Hebron Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Rex was retired from Inland Steel after 42 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and continued in the Army Reserves. He had many hobbies such as fishing, hunting, RVing, and was an avid NASCAR fan. The family would like to give a special Thank You to his physician, Dr. Kantilal Patel for his compassion and kindness of visiting Rex at home. Rex leaves many fond friends and loving family members who will remember his warm personality, his cookie eating abilities and the joy he brought to our lives.
