JAMES A. HAINES CROWN POINT, IN FORMERLY OF HARVEY, IL

James A. Haines, age 85, late of Crown Point, IN formerly of Harvey, IL, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013. Beloved husband of Elsie E. Haines (nee Yadron); dear father of Jim (Barbara) Haines, Cynthia (Ed Mueller) Haines, Janet Haines, and Nancy (Lee) Maney; loving grandfather of Michael Haines, Elizabeth Mueller, and Taylor Maney; dear brother of Marion Fox Atwood and the late Lorraine Haines. Preceded in death by his parents: Walter and Theresa Haines. Visitation Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 2:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Monday, April 22, 2013 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 A.M. at the Smits, DeYoung-Vroegh Funeral Home, 649 E. 162nd St. (Rt.6/159th St.) South Holland, IL with services conducted by Rev. John J. Powers. Interment private. Mr. Haines served as Mayor of the City of Harvey from 1967-1983. He was a contractor in the South Suburban area for many years and was a W.W. II U.S. Navy veteran having served on the U.S.S. Pittsburgh. He was elected last year to the Thornton High School Hall of Fame. In honor of Mr. Haines, memorial contributions may be given to Thornton High School Alumni Legacy Fund.
