SHARON ANNE SVEC (PHEGLEY) Sharon Anne (Phegley) Svec, age 60, passed away on July 30, 2013 at the VNA Hospice surrounded by her husband and friends. She is survived by Edward Svec, her husband of 31 years; as well as by her sister, Carole Sue Phegley of Michigan City; and her brother, John Gerald Phegley III of Rensselaer. Her parents: John and Lodema (Powell) Phegley preceded her in death. Mrs. Svec graduated from Indiana University in 1975. She completed a Master of Library Science at Ball State in 1982 and a Master of Computer Science at Purdue in 1987. During her tenure with Porter Township School Corporation, she taught at both Porter Lakes Elementary and Boone Grove Middle School. In addition to her duties as librarian, she also instructed students in literature appreciation, library and media skills, careers, computers, keyboarding and remediation. Being active in Porter County 4H as the basket weaving superintendent allowed Sharon the opportunity to find some very good weavers. She was also active as a judge for cake decorating and open class quilting for other 4H counties. In recent years, she won first place for quilting open class at the Porter County Fair. Sharon was very proud of her basket that took grand champion of all open class at the Porter County Fair. Visitation will be Monday, August 5, 2013 at Kosanke Funeral Home, 105 E. Indiana Avenue, Kouts from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m. with Father Jerry Schweitzer officiating. Private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a library of your choice, Sacred Heart (Wanatah) Building Fund, VNA Hospice (Valparaiso), or Carmelite Home in East Chicago. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date at Sacred Heart of Wanatah where Sharon was a member. KosankeFuneralHome.com
