Richard J. Winn, 66, of Bargersville, IN passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 4, 1947 in Wheeling, WV to William A. Winn and Eleanor (Husvar) Winn. He married Christine M. (Soberg) Winn on April 2, 1971 in Portage, IN; she survives. Richard had been a supervisor for U.S. Steel in Gary, IN. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War. Richard was a member of Wheatfield Masonic Lodge #642 where he had served as Past Master, South Bend Valley of the Scottish Rite, and the Marine Corps League in Valparaiso, IN. He loved fishing and drag car racing. He also enjoyed War Commander on Facebook. Survivors include his wife, Christine M. (Soberg) Winn of Bargersville; son, Rich W. Winn (Katie) of Indianapolis, IN; daughter Tammi R. McCabe (Tony) of Carmel, IN; brothers: William T. Winn of Valparaiso, IN, Olsen Soberg (Cassy) of Portage, IN, and Donny Soberg (Heidi) of Kouts, IN; sisters: Mary Jane Hall (Doyle, deceased) of Portland, TN, Doris Levenduski of LaPorte, IN, Debra Brockway-Burns (George) of Valparaiso, IN, Arlene Gilland (Coy) of Madison, TN, and Donna Kitchen (Mark) of Portage, IN; four grandchildren: Meghan Buchanan, Levi McCabe, Sara Buchanan, and Emmelyn Rose Winn; and several nieces and nephews (you know who you are). Wheatfield Masonic Lodge #642 will conduct a Masonic service at 7:00 PM on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove Street, Wheatfield, IN with a memorial service immediately following and conducted by the Reverend Father Bruce Pawlak. Full military honors will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM Saturday until service time at the funeral home. He will eventually be laid to rest in the Smokey Mountains. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the ALS Indiana Chapter, 6525 East 82nd Street, Suite 115, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
