JOHN T. TRAKAS VALPARAISO, IN


John T. Trakas, 99, of Valparaiso, formerly of Lake of the Four Seasons, passed away on March 17, 2014. John was born in Greece and raised in Gary. He attended Emerson in Gary. John was retired from U.S. Steel - Gary Works. He was a proud member of SS Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the AHEPA Chapter 78. He was a veteran of World War II, U.S. Air Force. John was the happiest when he was surrounded by his family, especially for Sunday dinners. He truly loved his family, his church and the Cubs. John was preceded in death by his parents: Tom and Bessie Trakas; brother, Chris; and sister, Kathryn Trakas. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sula; four children: Tom (Raeann) Trakas of Porter, Bill Trakas of Valparaiso, Kathy Trakas of Chicago and Krissy (Dennis) Cahill of Valparaiso; "Papou" to six grandchildren: Jonathan, Nikolas, Adam and Evan Cahill, Zoe and Theo Trakas; loving cousin Spero (Joyce) Melegos of Merrillville. Funeral services for John will be held Friday, March 21, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at SS Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 8000 Madison Street, Merrillville with Rev. George Pappas and Rev. James Greanias officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. Interment will be at Ridgelawn Cemetery, 4401 W. Ridge Road, Gary, IN. Contributions may be made to SS Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral. www.burnsfuneral.com
