Earl Harris Obituary
Indiana State Representative Earl L. Harris, Sr., age 73, passed away at St. Catherine Hospital on March 23, 2015. He was a student of Purdue University, Indiana University and the Illinois Institute of Technology. Mr. Harris was an honorably discharged U.S. Naval Reserve Veteran whom was known as a 'Tireless Advocate' to the state of Indiana. He served as Indiana State Representative of the 2nd district from 1982 to current, Vice Chair of Ways and Means, Deputy Speaker Pro Tem and Speaker Pro Tem. Mr. Earl Harris retired as Fixed asset manager of East Chicago School Corporation, he also served as a board member of East Chicago Urban Enterprise Association and the Northwest Indiana Urban League. He leaves to cherish Loving Wife of 45 years, Donna J. Harris; son, Earl L. Harris Jr.; two brothers: Harry (Josephine) Harris, Ruben (Paulette) Bailey; three sisters: Collie Mae (Charles) Rodgers, Annie Halliburton, Susie (Albert) Henderson; two aunts: Ophelia Harris and Rose Bailey. Visitation will be Friday March 27, 2015 at Divinity Funeral Home 3831 Main st. East Chicago, IN 46312 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a Family hour from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday March 28, 2015 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark A.M.E Zion church 4200 Alder st. East Chicago, IN 46312. Rev. George Walker, officiating. Rev. James Hunter, Walker Eulogist. Interment: Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN.

Thank you Donna and Earl, Jr. for sharing Earl with us. Earl was a leader, mentor, and friend who not only maintained fiduciary responsibility for our communities but who did so without compromising our trust and confidence in his ability to get the job done. On all levels, Earl will be sorely missed, but we will continue to be blessed, for decades to come, by his good works.
