Jack R. Clem, age 73, of Portage, IN, passed away Friday, October 5, 2007. He was a longtime Portage resident. Jack served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a charter member of the Portage Jaycees, a member of the American Legion Post #260, served as a Portage Township Board Council member, a Portage City Councilman for 7 1/2 years, Porter County Councilman for 12 years and currently State Representative of the 10th District, and Porter County Code Enforcement Officer. Jack was a retired supervisor at U.S. Steel and INDOT. He was a member of the Dunes Masonic Lodge #741. Jack was an avid golfer. He loved fishing on beloved Christie Lake in Michigan. Jack is survived by his wife, Arlene Clem (Hoover) of Portage, IN; five children: Jacqueline (Dr. Ken) Black of Valparaiso, IN, Michael (Deborah) Clem of Portage, IN, Karen (Anthony) Vuko of Portage, IN, Deborah (Kevin) Eversole of Chesterton, IN and Andrea (John) Smith of Hobart, IN; six grandchildren: Richard (Saren), Cassandra, Kristin, Catherine, Nicole and Kathleen; three brothers: Kenneth (Janice) Clem of Chesapeake, VA, Richard Clem of Valparaiso, IN and David (Sandra) Clem of Portage, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents: Willard and Margaret Clem; and sister, Patricia Clem. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 8, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, IN with Deacon Robert Bonta officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, October 7, 2007 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel (219) 762-3013. www.reesfuneralhomes.com.
