CLARA BURNS HAMMOND, IN Clara Burns was born December 30, 1920 in Enterprise, MS and entered into eternal life on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at home. She was the daughter of the late Eugene May and Lucille King May. Clara married Leonard Burns, Sr. in 1938 and they moved to Hammond, IN in 1947. Out of this union, five children were born: the late Curtis Burns, Angie R. Jackson, Leonard (Alice) Burns, Jr., the late Doris Crymes and Thomas Burns. Clara accepted Christ in her life at an early age. When she and the late Leonard Burns, Sr. moved to Hammond, IN, she joined the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. A. R. Burns. Clara is survived by three children: Angie R. Jackson of Chicago, IL, Leonard (Alice) Burns, Jr. of Fredericksburg, VA and Thomas Burns of Hammond, IN. Clara had a special and loving relationship with Leonard James Burns of Jacksonville, AR. The surviving grandchildren are: Chris (Melanie) Jackson of Bellwood, IL, Tiffany (George) Copeland, Lionel (Elizabeth) Burns of Alexandria, VA, Allyson (Daunte) Snowden of Okinawa, Japan, Ondrayah Burns and Thomas Burns, Jr. both of East Chicago, IN, Talana Burns of Indianapolis, IN, Jackie Hill, Katasha Hill and Candice Hill all of Hammond, IN, Robert Bridgeforth of Shreveport, LA, James Burns and Brandy Bridgeforth both of Jacksonville, AR. Clara is survived by nine great-grandchildren. Clara shared laughter and love with her niece, Mary Cartwright; nephew, Rev. Alton (Minnie) Burns; son-in-law, Johnny Crymes; daughters-in-law: Coleen Burns and Alice Burns; her girl, Cora Bell Smith. Clara loved life and always had a warm smile for everyone. The celebration of Clara's life will be held Monday, October 15, 2007 at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1047 Kenwood Street, Hammond, IN at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. William Collins officiating.
