HOLLANDER--Zander (Alexander), died peacefully on April 11th at the Jewish Home Life Care NH from Alzheimer's Disease. Always a sports writer, editor, and book packager starting with covering High School Sports, then skiing, boating, and tennis for the New York World Telegram and Sun. He was a WWII veteran writing for Brief Magazine. More a loving husband, father and family man. He cherished his time at his Indian Lake home where he would chop wood, shoot hoops, go out on the lake, grill and care for his property. Survived by his dedicated wife Phyllis of 62 years, daughter Susan (Neil), grandchildren Tobye and Emma, sister-in-law Davee Israel, nieces and nephews and Charlestown, SC family. Predeceased by his companion and loving son Peter. Donations to the Dementia Unit 5th floor Friedman-Jewish Home Life Care, Manhattan Division. Memorial Service April 27, 11:30am at "The Riverside" 180 West 76th St., NY, NY.

While writing for Brief magazine, he accompanied my cousin, Lt. Stanley S. Spatz also of Far Rockaway, on a mission in March of 1945. Sadly, Stanley was KIA on May 5th, 1945. Stanley was quite excited about the article per a letter he wrote to his parents.

I had the pleasure of working for Zander as a college undergrad in the late 1960's. He was just a genuinely nice person and a great boss. I'm sorry we lost touch over the intervening decades.
