I can't believe it's been 12 years. I continue to feel grateful to have come into such close contact with Harris's brilliance, humor, talent, and friendship. Much love to all who continue to remember and grieve. - Jon Blake, Amherst '95

Harris was a great friend. He and I juggled together at Amherst. He was a wonderfully talented person, energetic, funny and friendly. We got back in touch a few years ago when we were both in grad school. I only learned of his passing via the internet and offer my belated condolences to all his friends and family.

To the family and friends of Harris, please know that you are in the prayers of many. In addition to all the other music he was a part of at Amherst College, Harris was the bass guitarist for the gospel choir during my tenure as director. He had never played gospel music before, but was a pro after just one rehearsal. I am honored to have had the pleasure of seeing his genius and his compassion up close. Harris, you will be missed.

To all of Harris' family and friends, my heart breaks with you and for you. I went to Amherst with Harris and sang backup in "H-Bomb," his funk/soul band and it was some of the most fun I've ever had.

Like music, many prayers are beyond words. Please accept mine with gratitude and love.

Harris was a friend and colleague of mine, I performed in a piece of his at the CUNY graduate center. We had good conversations and we had lunch a few times. We also had quite a few good laughs about music taking itself so seriously. He was a wonderfully creative spirit with an insightful mind. I want to tell all of his family members that he has left a lasting impact on me and many others.

Howard, I never met your son, Harris but when I learned the news the other day, my heart fell for you and your family. As a person who also lost a child at the start of his vibrancy and creativity, I feel your loss as if it were my own.
Plese feel free to contact me at anytime if it would be of any comfort to you.
Your Harris and my Benjamin were apparently kindred spirits and I pray that they are composing , writing etc. in some other space and hopefully provoking the status quo of wherever they are.

Harris was my friend and a musician-colleague. I'll remember that we shared good laughs and had a habit of discovering our mutual friends in a string of happy coincidences.
I wish his family and friends strength and peace.

One of his biggest fans - since high school - and will remember his humor, smile, music and ingenuity. No doubt that Harris has taken the harp given to him, and has installed an electrical element to it.

We knew Harris only briefly, but could tell immediately how special he was. We deeply mourn the loss of this vital young person.

Harris and I attended high school together, and were both involved in our school's drama department -- Theatre South. I remember him as one of the sweetest guys I'd known throughout high school, and we always made each other laugh! He'll be missed dearly, and I'll never forget his smile!

Gentle, bright, funny, kind, gifted--so much more. I was last with Harris hardly a month ago; I remember seeing him walk into the room, and just being delighted that he was there. I am grateful to have known him, to have been able to partake in his presence, for as long as I did.

Harris was someone I always looked forward to spending time with. He was incredibly bright and immensely talented and made me think, laugh and smile (usually all at once) I send my condolences to his family and friends.

When we worked together at Upoc 2001-2003, Harris would always finish his projects early so he could talk about or work on music. He lived for music. I hope he is at peace, and near a harp.

Harris was an adorable young man and extremely promising budding composer & musician. In the summer of '05 in Krakow, we played fiddle together nearly every day. Harris could spin out klezmer tunes, the classics, jazzy stuff, and all kinds of brilliant riffs he invented on the spot. He was great fun to jam with and very patient with me (I stink as a violinist). All talent, no ego-that's how I'd describe Harris.

My deepest condolences to his family.

He was a sweet, gentle boy who grew up to be a sweet, gentle man with a wonderful smile.
Gone too soon.

Harris and I studied in Krakow in 1995 at NYU's Summer Program. I have fond memories of him. He went to Berlin one weekend to see the Reichstag wrap in pink by the artist Christo. I regretted not going with him!
