SCHWELLER--Bertha, of Boca Raton, Florida and New York City passed away on June 17, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Born on June 9, 1923, Ms. Schweller was president of her senior high school class and graduated New York University
with an accounting degree. She was a pioneer in the Wine and Liquor industry and was highly successful as a business person at a time when it was extraordinary in a city as competitive as New York City was in the late 1950's. Ms. Schweller was the creator and owner of the highly successful retail business known as Mid-Town Wine and Liquor for over 50 years. In her personal life, she was always known as "great Aunt Bertha" as her generosity and kindness to both friends and family had no limits. She had a passion for life, which she lived to the fullest. Predeceased by her beloved parents, Sarah and Louis Schweller, who owned the landmark restaurant known as SCHWELLER's, her brother Gus, and her sister, Sylvia Kalish (Nee Schweller-Theodore) she is survived by her nephews, Herbert Kalish (Mary), Lewis Schweller (Cathy) and Allan Kalish. Ms. Schweller is also survived by her long time companion, George Bistolfi, and her grandnieces and grandnephew, Sara Sherry (Nee Kalish-Dean), Jordan Schweller, Jessie Kuhn (Nee Schweller-David) and Lara Schweller, all of whom deeply loved and will sorely miss her. The family thanks Ms. Althea Thompson for her highly professional and loving care given to Ms. Schweller for the past several years. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday June 21st at Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus NJ.
