CARTER--Elliott. The Juilliard School deeply mourns the passing of Elliott Carter, one of the most distinguished and important composers of our time. We were privileged to have him as a member of our composition faculty from 1966 to 1984. With a compositional genius and innovative approach to all that he created, Elliott made us experience music in ways that expanded our intellectual and emotional horizons. As a teacher, he was profoundly influential in preparing new generations of musicians to address compositional challenges with integrity and imagination. We will deeply miss his extraordinary wisdom and his warm personality. Bruce Kovner, Chairman Joseph W. Polisi, President Ara Guzelimian, Provost and Dean Robert Beaser, Chair, Composition Department
