EVELYN H. LAUDER

LAUDER--Evelyn H. The Boards of Overseers and Managers and staff of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center note with sorrow the passing of Evelyn H. Lauder, who served with distinction as a member of MSKCC's Boards from 1990 until the time of her death. Mrs. Lauder spearheaded the fund drive to build and equip Memorial Sloan-Kettering's Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center, which opened in 1992 at 205 East 64th Street. This outpatient facility, which served as a model for breast cancer centers around the world, offered multidisciplinary care for breast cancer patients, who were able to see experts from surgeons to medical oncologists to psychiatrists and social workers all under one roof. In 2009, MSKCC opened the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center in a new home at 300 East 66th Street. This state-of-the-art center offers comprehensive breast cancer services in a patient-centered setting designed to accommodate evolving modalities in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. The serenity and beauty of the treatment areas reflect Mrs. Lauder's commitment to building a home for patients and for their physicians and nurses, and her belief in the healing power of nature, natural light, and art. But its deeper beauty derives from what it enables and facilitates-the rapid translation of laboratory and clinical discoveries into meaningful advances for patients with cancer. Women with breast cancer and their families, as well as the members of our treatment and research communities, will be forever grateful for Mrs. Lauder's philanthropic support, wisdom, enthusiasm, and guidance. Her tireless dedication to the improvement of treatment for breast cancer will continue to serve as an inspiration. She will be profoundly missed. We extend our deepest condolences to her husband, Leonard, her children and grandchildren, and the rest of her family. Douglas A. Warner III, Chairman, Boards of Overseers and Managers Craig B. Thompson, President Robert E. Wittes, Physician-in-Chief, Memorial Hospital Larry Norton, Deputy Physician-in-Chief, Breast Cancer Programs Medical Director, The Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center John R. Gunn, Executive Vice President
