GENE APRUZZI

APRUZZI--Gene, died peacefully at home in Fort Lauderdale, FL on May 30, 2013 after a lingering illness, with his wife Gail and daughter Claire at his bedside to say goodbye and wish him Godspeed. Gene was born February 16, 1934 in Bari, Italy, the second son of General Francesco Apruzzi and Giulia Tritto Apruzzi. He was educated at University of Bari in Italy and graduated with a combined doctoral degree in Finance and Economics. He immigrated to the United States in 1956 and took graduate courses at New York University. He was later employed by Cyrus J. Lawrence and Sons, a "carriage trade" Member of the New York Stock Exchange. He rose to partner and was subsequently instrumental in the conversion and recapitalization of the partnership to Cyrus J. Lawrence Incorporated in preparation for "May Day" in 1975. Gene functioned as Executive Vice President-Operations and Administration and remained in that capacity after the company was sold to Morgan Grenfell, PLC in 1986. He retired in 1994 from Deutsche Bank AG after it completed its acquisition of Morgan Grenfell. Gene was active in the affairs of the securities industry, was a member of the Arbitration Panels of both the New York Stock Exchange and the National Association of Securities Dealers, and a member of the NASD District No. 12 Committee. He was a member of the Downtown Athletic Club, resided for many years in Manhasset and was a longtime member of the Plandome Country Club. He later lived in Manhattan for a few years prior to his retirement. He is survived by his wife Gail, daughter Claire, his sister-in-law, niece and nephew. He was predeceased by his brother Angelo and his first wife Ida. A Memorial Mass was held at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Fort Lauderdale on Monday, June 3, 2013. Gene's ashes will be interred at sea at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the , PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
