MEADE--Judith. Passed away August 24 after a brief and brave battle with cancer. Loving wife to William Meade and mother to Henry and Patrick, Judy was a true New Yorker from her birth in Sunnyside, Queens to her last home on the Upper West Side. A graduate of the University of Georgia
, she returned to Manhattan and had a long career in publishing including Bon Appetit and Seventeen magazines and the Scholastic Co. After the birth of her twin sons, she became a freelance copywriter, working for New York magazine, Patch, and Aravind Eye Foundation, as well as directing marketing communications for her husband's entertainment production company. She also developed Charlie B, a children's multimedia education package. Whether it was her flair for decorating or her inventive gourmet menus, Judy will be remembered as a warm hostess with an open door policy for all. She knew no strangers. Judy enjoyed the arts, film, music, and was an excellent Scrabble player with a spirited sense of humor. She loved traveling with her family and was active in supporting her children's schools. In addition to her husband and children, she leaves four siblings: Linda, Ken, Lynn Ann and Patricia, and a wide circle of friends. She is predeceased by her parents and a brother. Services will be held at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Ave., on Saturday, August 31 at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gilda's Club of New York.
