KENT--Lillian J. Lillian passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Manhattan's Upper East Side on February 11th. She was 96 years old. Lillian was born on May 27, 1916 in Brooklyn to Ellis Jaffe and Anna Blumberg. Extraordinarily bright, determined and ahead of her time, Lillian earned her Bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College in 1936 and her Master's Degree from the University of Michigan
in 1937. She worked in advertising sales for many years before founding her own highly regarded advertising agency at a time when it was extremely unusual for a woman to do so. She went on to serve as the president of Advertising Women of New York. She married Jack Kent in 1951, who treasured her until his death in 1973. Along with the deep love of her family, Lillian earned the unwavering friendship, respect and admiration of a multitude of people. She enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to take in all that New York had to offer - particularly the ballet, theatre, museums, and restaurants. While she traveled extensively, she believed that there is no better place in the world than New York City. Lillian was well known for her generosity, volunteerism and deep desire and sense of responsibility to help others in need. She feared nobody and was known to speak her mind with honesty and passion. She followed current events closely, reading The New York Times from cover-to-cover each day. She had a remarkable ability to relate to younger generations, and despite the difference in age, her nieces and nephews (and great-nieces and great- nephews) routinely looked to her for guidance and friendship in all aspects of life. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Harold and Herman Jaffe, whom she adored and who adored her, her sister-in-law Trude Jaffe, and her aunt, Tilly Strysower, who was like a mother to her. She is survived by her youngest brother Daniel Jaffe and his wife Lori, her cousin Joan Levitt, niece Susan Jaffe, nephew David Jaffe and his wife Maureen, nephews Brian Jaffe and Edward Jaffe and Edward's wife Sandy, great nephews Andrew Jaffe and Michael Jaffe, and great nieces Hilary Jaffe and Sarah Jaffe. Her family will greatly miss their mentor and friend. She will forever be in their hearts. A celebration of Lillian's life will be held at a future date to be announced. Contributions in Lillian's memory may be sent to Save the Children Foundation, 54 Wilton Road, Westport, CT 06881.
