STECKER--Robert Bates, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2013 at age 91. A beloved father, the Stecker family is joined by dear friends in mourning the passing of a remarkable individual whose compassion and wise counsel enriched the lives he touched. He inspired us to be our very best, with style, a quick wit, and insight. After graduating from Purdue University in 1942, throughout his life Bob's marvelous energy, intellect and leadership helped organize practical solutions - in the Pacific during WWII serving in the Army Air Corps (forerunner of the USAF), during his distinguished career of 40 years at AT&T, and as an active member of Boards throughout the community and global environmental organizations. He never stopped learning, giving, enjoying, with optimism and a joie de vie. A life celebration memorial will be held at a later date.
