HUMBACH--William W., passed away peacefully Thursday, January 23rd. Devoted father, husband of his adored late wife, Millie, doting grandfather. During his thirty five year career at the New York Times he worked as a reporter, as an editor on the National Desk, and assistant to the Executive Editor and Publisher. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. Phi Beta Kappa, Summa cum laude graduate from New York University. Boston Red Sox fan and expert crossword puzzle solver (always done in ink.) A lover of books and music. Famous for his puns and unconventional sense of humor and encyclopedic memory. Survivers include daughters Annie and Miriam and grandson Matthew. Family and friends gathering for a tribute in his honor, Sunday, February 9th at the home of the Kessler Family, 38 Russet Lane, Huntington, NY. 12:00pm to 5:00pm.
