Bodo Giovanni von Alvensleben

1927 - 2013
After a valiant battle against numerous ailments, Bodo Giovanni Werner Gebhard Siegfried von Alvensleben zu Eichenbarleben died peacefully at 22:15 on Saturday August 3rd at Beau Sejour Hospital in Geneva with his wife Jenny, daughter Chantal and son-in-law Courtney, at his side.

Bodo is survived by his beloved wife Jenny, daughters Elide, Chantal and her husband Courtney, nephews and nieces Massimo, Stefano, Maurizio, Elena, Bodo Douglas and Belinda, his extended family and treasured friends around the world.

Bodo was tremendously loved by all. He lived an exceptionally full life and made a difference in the lives of so many who he met along the way. He was a force of nature who was as passionate about the people he loved as he was about his lifelong career in the Hotel industry, for which he will always remain legendary.

An extraordinary Hotelier, he was known simply as "Mr. Bodo" around the world. Bodo left his mark on the many hotels where he worked over the years in Switzerland, England, Canada, Bermuda, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and the United States: the Hotel Victoria and the Mont Cervin Palace in Zermatt, the Suvretta House in St. Moritz, the Park Hotel in Vitznau, the Hotel des Bergues in Geneva, Brown’s Hotel in London, the Ritz-Carlton in Montreal, the Banff Springs Hotel in Alberta, the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, he Waterloo House, The Reefs, the Hamilton Princess and The Elbow Beach in Bermuda, The Acapulco Princess in Mexico, Casa de Campo, La Romana, the Hispaniola and the Hotel Santo Domingo in the DR, The Waldorf Towers in New York City and The Beau-Rivage Palace in Lausanne.

He will be remembered, among many other things, for his fascinating and animated story-telling, his consistent acts of love, the green pens, the optimism he inherited from his mother Gisela, his love of nature, and his characteristic von Alvensleben stubbornness.

He will be celebrated in a funeral service on Friday August 9, at 15:00 at Pope John XXIII at St. Nicholas de Flue, 57 Rue Montbrillant in Geneva Switzerland.
