Yetta Littman Obituary

LITTMAN--Yetta Abler, who devoted her life to philanthropic work as former Board President and founding member of The Service League of the Hebrew Home and Hospital for the Chronic Sick, died on May 13, 2008 at the age of 99. Born in 1909, the daughter of Gussie and Morris Abler, she attended Wadleigh High School and graduated from Teacher's Training and Hunter College. Following a brief singing career which included a weekly radio show, "Singing In the Bathtub" on WYAL, she taught high school in the New York City Public School system. Married in 1936 to the late Carl Littman, attorney and president of Chesterfield Farms Dairy, Mrs. Littman will be remembered for her fierce sense of humor, her indefatigable energy and generosity, her ability to make a great "deal," and her gift for friendship. She is survived by her daughter, Oscar-winning filmmaker, Lynne Littman and grandsons Alex Littman Hackford and Rio Hackford. Services will be held at The Riverside Memorial Chapel on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 11:30am. Contributions can be made in her memory to The Hebrew Hospital Home Foundation, 61 Grassland Road, Valhalla, New York 10595.
