JACQUELINE END Obituary

END--Jacqueline The world has lost an amazing woman, loving sister, aunt, and friend, a multi-talented artist, published author, famous advertising writer, astoundingly gifted cook, photographer and lover of animals, particularly cats. She is survived by her devoted brother Joseph Arlotta, niece Kyra Arlotta, and her cat, Susie. Jackie enjoyed a celebrated career as an award-winning copywriter and creative director in advertising, creating famous advertising for some of the most heralded agencies which includes Doyle Dane Bernbach; Chiat/Day; and Wells Rich Greene. She was loved and respected by her peers and colleagues. She was known for creating the Freakies cereal and the band of animated "misfit" characters that introduced the hit cereal to America. She is also known for the Bic Banana commercials which she worked on with Mel Brooks. She created famous advertising for Volkswagen, Absolut, Nivea, and so many more. Just a few things we will remember and forever cherish about Jackie: her brilliant sense of humor, intelligence, exquisite beauty and elegance, her kindness, her wisdom, her magical and beautiful holiday gingerbread cookies, her breath-taking flower photography, her clever writings, sophisticated style and huge heart, her generous desire to help anyone in need and her sense of magic. A spirited libertarian, Jackie was a dedicated patriot and fierce defender of the constitution. In lieu of flowers contributions to the Humane Society or the ASPCA would be appreciated. Memorial service Wednesday August 22, 2012, 5pm at Frank E. Campbell, 1076 Madison Ave. at 81st St., NYC.

Hi Jackie. I can't believe you've been gone almost 10 years. I miss you more the older I get and the longer I work in advertising. I wish I could talk to you about so many things. I know you are at peace, probably surrounded by cats. Thank you for all you taught me, Farina.
Love, Pastina.

I met Jackie via a Freakies fan site on FB, and had one private conversation with her, which I will post; I very much regret not having met her, because I really loved her crative spirit. I know that we will meet in the future. ^_^

Please don't be upset, but I must ask if this is really you (Jackie End that developed the Freakies), or just a fan?

Jackie End

Yes. It's really me. The Freakies are the one thing I did in my advertising career that was completely original. And I still get a kick out of them!

You should check out the "Secret Mountain Fort Awesome" show on Cartoon Network. Reminds me of how a Freakies cartoon might be a good idea. It's a lot less cool than Freakies, though...

I am almost sure that some of the writers are at least /aware/ of the Freakies. The characters are called the 'Disgustoids.' Sounds similer, eh? [:/]

Not enuf for a copyright infringement suit, but I think you'll see what I mean.

I just checked the website and there ARE similarities - but not enough for coyright infrigement. One of the characters follows the shape of the monster in one of my favorite Bugs Bunny cartoons...the monster's name is Gossamer. Here's the cartoon....http://youtu.be/dLdKU4JCYqg

[:)] Such an interesting group of characters that worked for those early WB cartoons; we can only hope for another such Golden Age. I have been a programmer for years, and am definitely interested in learning Flash programming, because that's what's used for a lot of new animation, both on and off of the internet. It just boggles the mind how those great folks used regular animation for all of those classic features.

I am saddened by the death of Jackie End. What an extraordinary talent! Jackie and I worked on the Freakies taking them into test markets and then a national rollout. She was the creative spark that never faded and I was Ralston's Brand manager. We also worked on many new and fun products (Moonstones, Grins, & Smiles & Giggles & Laughs, Fruity and Cocoa Freakies and others). She was an extraordinarily gifted women, creative, intuitively insightful, unflappable and with an uncanny marketing sense.
As someone commented earlier, she now flies with her peers---the Angels. She will be missed…but more importantly, she will be remembered.

Whoever wrote, "Nothing is as frustrating as arguing with someone who knows what she's talking about," must have been thinking of Jackie. I was fortunate to have known and worked with her for over thirty years and our friendship, mutual respect and admiration remained constant…even when we occasionally disagreed and she was right. (I learned to say, 'Yes, Jackie' a lot.)

Jackie was unique in so many ways: her talent, style, sense of humor, intelligence, compassion, sensitivity and loyalty were without equal in my experience. We laughed a lot, shared a unified view (most of the time), and delivered work of which we were both proud. She was such a joy that I often felt I should be paying her to work together!

Jackie was particularly pleased with one of the commercials I directed for her. It featured Tom Selleck in his first spot, along with Teri Gar, Cindy Williams, and Patti Deutsch very early in their careers. See: http://tinyurl.com/9s6y5ze

I am deeply saddened to lose her. She had so much and it is gone too soon.

I hope Jackie will allow the stars to join her; they are trying to catch up….

Jackie was beautiful and sexy and also intimidating to me when we were both young writers at Doyle Dane Bernbach. A great writer; I read every word of her Volkswagen and Sony ads and aspired to be the talent she was and followed her career as she left Doyle Dane for Wells Rich Greene. Just a year ago we sat side by side at dinner after the DDB reunion. Clever and sophisticated and funny and self-deprecating, she rose above the many talented people at that exalted agency. This is an enormous loss.
