RUBIN BAUM Obituary

BAUM--Rubin (Ruby), passed away late-Saturday after a car hit him while hailing a taxi. Ruby was a medic in the Korean War -- double purple-heart recipient. A devoted husband to Denise, loving father to Danielle Rossen and Shepherd Baum, father-in-law to Jeff and Amanda. Ruby was a grandfather to Chase, Sloane, Lila and Blake, who affectionately called him "Rupa." Forever in our hearts, you have made an indelible mark on our lives. We love you. Funeral service to be held on Tuesday at 9:30am at Riverside Chapel, 180 West 76th Street, Manhattan.

I've never met you; only read the tragic news in the newspaper. Yet my heart is heavy and I am so very sorry for your loss. They way everyone describes Mr. Baum he sounds like an exceptional soul. My father is such a man. His loss would be unbearable. I am a stranger, yet I pray for your comfort and strength in the coming days and months. My heart goes out to you Mrs. Baum and family.

Shep,
It seems like a lifetime since we've seen each other but I felt compelled to write. I have never heard two people spoken about with such high regard as I did your parents. I was told by so people that they were the most wonderful, kind, compassionate, thoughtful and loving couple they had ever had the good fortune of meeting. He may be physically gone but his spirit and legacy can never be taken away. I'm so so sorry for your loss and I hope that it provides you with some comfort knowing that he spent his life as a hero and inspiration to many.

I am so so very sorry for your loss. It was a long time ago, but I will always remember fondly how kind and welcoming your family has always been. Shep's friends were always treated like family and visiting your home was a joy and a pleasure. My thoughts are with you during this extremely difficult time.

We met Rubin (Ruby) and Denise three years back at Park Avenue Fall for a lovely dinner. Though we never got together again we always remembered a very enjoyable meal, Denise you entertained us and your love for Ruby was so strong. I don't know if you remember us but we've not forgotten you. May your good memories of Ruby sustain you in these coming days and months.

Dear Mrs. Baum:

My boyfriend and I are from Toronto and were visiting your lovely city when we found ourselves at the scene of this horrible accident and provided, I hope, some comfort. We are very sorry about your husband. I wish we could have been more help but we were all so traumatized. Again, our deepest sympathies.
