I met Stanley when I was working with Michelle Lee in Houston years ago. Prior to that I was friend with Gregory Hines who also was managed by Stanley. We spent a lot of time talking between shows. I remember him telling that he would only manage people he liked and they have to fit in with his family, meaning Michelle, Hines Hines and dad etc.

Just thinking of how this business of jazz & music really misses the Stanley Kays of the world ... live music would never lose it's grip on the pulse of the public if Stanley were here to add his genius and passion.

I was just told of Stanley's passing by my old boss at the Kennedy Center. I met Stanley while interning in the jazz department in 2001. While hosting Sherrie Maricle & the Divas, Stanley lost his cell phone. I tried to help him find it, and he offered to treat me for dinner when in Manhattan the following month. He was a warm and thoughtful host, and completely down-to-earth. Jerry Stiller came up to our table at Stanley's favorite Italian restaurant to greet him. I felt like I was touching Manhattan royalty, and Stanley was! He also introduced me to a friend of his on the West Coast when I moved to this side of the country, a friend who treated me with the same "Stanley spirit" of hospitality. Several summers later, married and consulting in New York, Stanley and I got in touch again. He offered to welcome me to the city, again with dinner. Such a generous heart! That was in 2008, the last time I would speak to him. I miss him. I will always remember his huge heart, good humor, compassion and big smile. Rest in peace, Stanley. You were a good man.

Stanley was a great friend to my first husband, James Eddy ... standing up for him as best man for several of his weddings. Although Stanley had sadness in his life you would never know it... he was always upbeat, happy for everyone's successes. The time I spent knowing Stanley (long ago and far away) has always been in my memory and thoughts of him always make me smile.

Stanley and I met around 1994-95 after he had heart surgery. I was Stanley's personal fitness trainer and friend for years to follow. It saddens me greatly to hear of his passing. The memories I have of spending time with him bring me immense happiness. Stanley had a unique hipness about him and a beautiful sense of humor. We once spent 2 hours reading Henny Youngman one liners and watching the Dean Martin roasts. He is a very special man in my life even though he is gone. I will miss him dearly, but revel in the times we shared. I hope one day to see my pallie again!

I met Stanley in 1992 during the auditions for the Diva Orchestra in NYC. He was funny, demanding and focused. During our first rehearsals as a band that Winter I got to hear some of his "war stories". He was the real deal. I remember us girls chipped in to buy him a "smoking jacket" , that says it all!

I didn't know Mr. Kay, however knowing many of the members of the Diva Jazz Orchestra and their incredible commitment to music, I can only acknowledge this great man from afar. He must have been a powerful person to be around. I didn't know him as I said, but I do know the world is a different place without him. Thanks Jami for the announcement.
God keep him.

Stanley graced the world with wit and talent and he will be achingly missed. He epitomized the sweet and solid swingingness of jazz and baseball. Will cherish the memory of our conversations and seeing him for last time late this spring when Johnny Mandel conducted Diva at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Stanley was a real "Stand Up Guy" in a business mostly filled with people of questionable character. If Stanley said you or someone was "Okay in my book", you could depend on them being trustworthy. He gave freely of his vast knowledge, experience, advice and amazing (often funny!) anecdotes. I am proud to have worked with Stanley and to call him a friend. Your spirit lives Stanley Kaye! Rest In Peace.

The thing that made Stanley most happy was to make other people happy that was it all he wanted in return was a note saying thank you and he would do anything for you. God Bless him.
