CESIA BLAICHMAN Obituary

BLAICHMAN--Cesia, 90,

passed away peacefully September 24, 2015 surrounded by family. Cherished and loving wife of Frank for 70 years. Devoted mother to Bella and Charles (Aviva); grandmother to Etan, Talia (Tym), Maya, Micah, Sabrina and Noah. Great-grandmother to Ceila. Sister of Jack Pomeranc. Raised in Wlodawa, Poland she fought bravely against Nazi Germany as a Jewish Partisan, active in the forests and small villages around Lublin. Cesia nursed the wounded, cooked for her fellow partisans and participated in operations to both protect her fellow Jews and punish their murderers. She survived with her three partisan fighting brothers - Jack, Yurik z"l and Abie z"l. Their parents, Bella Ita z"l, Lazar z"l, as well as three sisters -Chaya z'l, Matele z"l, Chana z"l, perished along with innumerable relatives. After the War she married Frank, her dearest comrade-in-arms, and emigrated with him to New York where they began a vibrant life and raised a beautiful family. Her elegant, delicious Shabbat and Holiday meals were legendary; her love and devotion to her family and friends absolute; her grief for her lost loved ones un-ending. As a true daughter of Israel, her commitment to Yiddishkeit and Holocaust Remembrance was sacrosanct. Cesia served as a committee member for the American IDF, Yad Va Shem, Hadassah, and several other notable organizations. Most of all, she was the warmest, most caring and loving woman, and will live forever in our hearts. Donations may be made to yadvashemusa.org or jewishpartisans.org. Services to be held Sunday, September 27 at noon "The Riverside," 76th Street and Amsterdam Avenue.

It is with deep regret that I just now found out about the passing of Cesia Blaichman. The Blaichmans and the Pomerances know my Mother, Hannah (Ann) Kreis, and I remember Cesia as a dear friend of my Mother and Father Dovid Ben Solomon (Z.L.) along with her and Jack's families. My Mother is not able to send her condolences and so I am doing it for her, my brother, myself, and our families. I dedicate my efforts to always remember what that generation did and accomplished, paving the way for my generation as well.
